COMESA CHIEF ELECTION OBSERVER MEETS MINISTER KABONEKA FRANCIS

Bishop Mary Nkosi, the Mission Leader of Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Election Observer Mission to Rwanda met with Minister of Local Government, Hon. Kaboneka Francis, today, and they discussed about the role of the Ministry in the conduct of presidential campaigns and electoral operations in Rwanda.

Minister Kaboneka expressed to the Mission Leader how the Ministry of Local Government is in charge of decentralization and follow up of governance, territorial administration and management of decentralized administrative entities.

Hon. Kaboneka said that; when it comes to campaigns and elections, the Ministry in partnership with Rwanda National Police ensures that there is respect of law and public order in addition to ensuring that all competing presidential candidates are given equal treatment during the campaign period in compliance with National Electoral Commission rules and regulations pertaining to conduct of presidential campaigns and elections.

The Mission Leader appreciated the way presidential campaign rallies have been conducted peacefully and no conflicts from or presidential candidates.
