Dr Mukabaramba in house of one of SPP beneficiaries

The Ministry of Local Government and affiliated agencies conducted an assessment on the implementation and impact of different social protection programmes to the beneficiary communities of Eastern province.

From 31 October to 2 November 2018, the leadership of the agencies connected to the social protection programmes visited different categories of beneficiaries to witness the impacts of the programmes that were put in place for socio-economic transformation; they also interacted with the implementers from district level to village level from Nyagatare and Kayonza.

The Minister of State for Social Affairs, Dr. Mukabaramba Alvera who joined the assessment team highlighted the efforts needed for transformation in social protection programmes.

“These programmes have to be implemented with extraordinary efforts and special attention of the local leaders as the programmes are meant to transform the lives of Rwandan people.” Dr Mukabaramba told the local leaders who work in social sector in eastern province during the meeting.

One of the programme assessed is the public work – a component of Vision Umurenge Programme in Rwinkwavu Sector, Kayonza District. The component as part of the programme plays a big role in social protection by providing soft employment that is implemented through handy activities by the vulnerable people who, in return, gain essential income to sustain their household.

The meeting with social sector actors came up with resolutions that will guide the acceleration of the impact of the programmes in the province. The programmes assessed include among others VUP, Minimum Package for Graduation, service for demobilised people, service for historically marginalised people; national rehabilitation service; service for genocide survivors and service for the people with disability.
