PROF SHYAKA: WESTERN PROVINCE SHOULD EXPLOIT AVAILABLE RESOURCES


Minister Shyaka and LG Officials visiting Rusizi Cross border market

During his 3-day working field visit in Rusizi and Nyamasheke Districts, Hon Prof Shyaka Anastase, the Minister of Local Government insisted that socio-economic transformation will be led by meaningful enforcement of home grown solutions and exploiting the available resources/opportunities in Local Governments.

Minister Shyaka visited different development projects including Risizi Cross Border Market; two borders connecting Rwanda to DR Congo, Kivu Marina Bay 4-star Hotel construction activities and Giheke Farmers’ Cooperative for Promotion of Milk Processing Factory, which was granted full shares by the cabinet meeting.

The cooperative “COOPRODEG” expressed gratitude to the Government of Rwanda for the recent cabinet decision to grant its shares of the factory to the farmers.

He also led a consultative meeting with Rusizi and Nyamasheke District Leaders from Cell to District level.

He appreciated the potentialities and opportunities existing in Western Province’s Districts but reminded what they need to aim at transforming its populace using socio-economic opportunities present.

He said:  Nyamasheke is one of the poorest Districts striving to transform but I was very impressed by political clarity, capacity and commitment of young women leaders of cells and sectors. With huge potential youthful and committed local leadership, transformation is possible here.

Minister of Local Government emphasized that transformation will require to exploit existing opportunities from home grown solutions.

In his speech while officially opening a two-day's workshop that will fine tune and finalise District Development Strategies (DDSs) for Western Province’s Districts, Minister Shyaka recommended the Districts’ Officials to align DDS with the existing potentials and opportunities in their Districts, national strategic plans, measurements with factual data and make sure their implementation is owned by the citizens across all layers.

In all his tours, Hon Minister also checked the status of each presidential pledge in Rusizi and Nyamasheke and requested concerned organised to expedite the works planned.
