MINALOC LAUNCHES NATIONAL CONSULTATIONS ON UBUDEHE CATEGORISATION REVIEW

The Ministry of Local Government launched on Tuesday, 19 February 2019, National consultations on Ubudehe Categorisation Review that aims at gathering information from the public countrywide on how to improve ubudehe categorisation and set criteria.

The exercise comes after policy dialogue on the same topic that was conducted last week in Kigali, bringing together officials from public entities; lawmakers, civil society organisations, faith based organisations among others.

Ubudehe policy which is to be reviewed, determines three-year period for the review of the categories so as to identify any changes in living standards as socio-economic life of the citizens is concerned.

Citizens consultation was conducted across the country during a weekly assembly locally known as Inteko z’Abaturage (gathering all villagers), but also through local media and especially MINALOC platforms.

Addressing the residents of Rilima Sector in Bugesera District, Dr Mukabaramba Alvera, the Minister of State for Social Affairs said the government opted to understanding ideas of the citizens before reviewing Ubudehe categories in order to improve the procedure and make it impactful to the community.
